ACBW Wednesday - We're in the thick of it now!

Got out yesterday to the Avenue Pub for the barrel aged event, and it was MAD JAM PACKED. Literally, the line for the upstairs bar's beers went out the door and down the stairs. I was able to grab an Evil Twin Double Barreled Jesus (though I was wondering if Evil Twin counts as American Craft Beer) and an Against The Grain London Balling barleywine aged in "Angel's Share" barrels previously used to age ruby port wine. It was a pretty interesting beer. I also got a chance to try one of Bayou Teche's special ACBW beers, Coteau Rodaire. I liked it a lot- it's a farmhouse/saison style aged in French Sauvignon Blanc barrels. Little bit of funk, very drinkable, but with a pleasant complexity.

I also went to the Bulldog on Canal for the New Orleans debut of Gnarly Barley. They had two versions of their Catahoula Common on draft - the regular one and a special version dryhopped with Columbus hops. They were both quite tasty. Looking forward to trying the Radical Rye on Friday, too. Many congrats to Zac and Cari Caramonta, who I know have been pushing really hard to get their beer ready for ACBW. So glad to be able to celebrate with you guys this week!

FYI, there was a Catahoula dog at the Bulldog hanging out - I guess his owners heard the name of the beer and knew they had to come out and support it. Heh.

Yesterday, I put together a map for Eater New Orleans that identifies the top 5 places to get your beer AND food on this week for ACBW. Check it out!

Also, this week's Brewsday Tuesday in the Gambit covers what's brewing with New Orleans brewpubs - Crescent City Brewpub and Gordon Biersch - these days.

Re the Gordon Biersch news, I have a slight correction, which I found out after publication - the Summerbrau Fest release will be on June 2, and they are adding a couple more "meet the new brewer" events this month:
  • May 22 3:00-5:00pm-Brewer's Happy Hour. (New GB brewer) Daniel will be joining guests for Happy Hour and discussing Gordon Biersch's handcrafted beer.
  • May 29 3:00-5:00pm-Brewery Tours. Daniel will be giving brewery tours and explaining the process of how to brew beer to guests. He will also be handing out samples.

On that note, let's take a look at what's happening tonight! I'm hoping to get out to the Avenue Pub's Funk Night if I can.
