2016 ACBW New Orleans Schedule of Events

All right! New Orleans area, here's what's happening for ACBW. Please let me know what I've missed (or messed up) so this can be the most up to date resource for all beer drinkers on this crazy week!


Even though ACBW doesn't officially start till Monday (thereby justifying my own lateness in getting this put together, heh) there are several events this weekend.

Saturday, May 14 


Noon-7 p.m. Technically the weekend before ACBW, Gnarly Barley’s second anniversary party at the Hammond brewery will see the first tapping of the brewery’s double IPA, Big DIPA. 1 p.m. Avenue Pub
Sour beer and cheese pairing. Sour beers include:  Crooked Stave Motif, Crooked Stave Silly Cybies, Crooked Stave Hop Savant Galaxy, Crooked Stave Hop Savant Centennial, Crooked Stave Nightmare on Brett Street Cherry, New Belgium Loves Felix apple whiskey sour, NOLA Blood Orange Rose Hips sour, NOLA Guava Pear Lowerline, and WiseAcre Berliner Weiss. Brandy and Beer. Copper & Kings brandy aged in these beer barrels: Against the Grain Fanny Mc Baw, Sierra Nevada Smoked Porter, Three Floyds Dark Lord, and Oskar Blues Goodnight barrels. There are deeply shared roots between Copper & Kings and craft beer. These brandies were aged in barrels that also aged beer. They are each uniquely different. (Note: it's the brandies that are featured at this event, there is no Dark Lord available, just a brandy aged in on of the barrels of it.)

Abita Jockamo Jazz Funeral. The Pinstripe Brass Band will lead a Second Line down St. Charles Ave. leaving from and returning to Cooter Brown's. 11 a.m. Burning Crawfish Festival at Bayou Teche Brewery
Bayou Teche hosts the first annual “Burning Crawfish Festival,” which brewery co-founder Karlos Knott says is “similar to Burning Man, but with a decidedly Cajun twist.” Four Louisiana bands playing everything from zydeco to rock will be on hand all day, and of course, there will be the lighting of the ceremonial lighting of the giant wooden crawfish as the central spectacle.

2 p.m. In lieu of a free for all Grand Tasting this year - the Pub will be closing for a staff trip to Belgium for 2 weeks starting on May 26, and the manpower to staff and recover from the event won’t be available - owner Polly Watts is bringing out some of her most cherished and rare barrel aged bottled beers.
