ACBW Pregame Day #2 - Sunday 5/12 report (and a list of events on Monday 5/13)

Sunday was a glorious spring day after the rain and humidity of the few days preceding it. A little cool for a May day in New Orleans, but that made it perfect.

We biked over to the Avenue Pub to partake in the Bayou Teche crawfish boil and Cocodrie launch. Cocodrie is a tripel Belgian IPA and weighs in at 8%. It drinks so beautifully that the guys at Bayou Teche got T shirts to indicate its deliciousness that comes with danger...

Danger!

Looks so innocent, doesn't it?
Bayou Teche also had an excellent cask of their Saison d'Ecrevisses dryhopped with New Zealand Motueka and Alsatian Aramis hops. That came out amazingly well.

I drank a couple pints while enjoying crawfish, as expertly boiled by the Bayou Teche team. It was a great pairing, because that's what the saison was specifically brewed to complement.

secret boil ingredient: Brussels sprouts! SO GOOD.
After crawfish, the Bayou Teche guys brought out a bottle of their Mello Joi dubbel that's been bourbon barrel aged with chile arbol and cocoa nibs. Gar says it's the best beer he's ever brewed. It was excellent. Nuanced and complex. Unusual ingredients that didn't overwhelm the palate. Balanced, delicious, and harmonized. I strongly suggest checking it out. It will be at the Louisiana Craft Beer Collective bottle share meet & greet tonight at Dat Dog as well as part of the "Beer & Its Bourbon" event tomorrow night at the Avenue Pub.

We tore ourselves away to bike down Prytania to check out the St. Arnold's event at the Aline Street Beer Garden. We were able to catch Nicole from St. Arnold and Jason from the Beer Garden for a bit, and we chatted over free Saint Arnold Santo black Kolsch beers. (their traditional Kolsch Lawnmower Beer was also free.)

So far, ACBW is going well - and it's only officially starting today!
