Official Start to ACBW - Monday, 5/13

And... we're off! (officially) Although the official span of ACBW is May 13-19, the weekend preceding had several fun events. But Monday is when things get real.

Southern Tier rollout - hope you all made it because Pumking is gone. My personal favorite of the 6 was Live, which was a lovely, unassuming, subtle, and drinkable pale ale. The Creme Brulee was a bit of a surprise, it was less sweet on the palate than I'd anticipated. Quite sweet on the nose though. Ran into the rep from Schmaltz Brewing who is in town for ACBW and he let me know that Schmaltz had just cut the ribbon on their own brewery and will be doing all kinds of experiments and fun stuff, including doing on-site distilling. Keep an eye on 'em up in New York State.

Southern Tier's Hop Sun - their wheat beer. Nice bitterness on finish

Creme Brulee stout - lives up to its name

After that, it was off to the Louisiana Craft Beer Collective meetup at Dat Dog on Magazine Street. The management of Dat Dog was so great and supportive about working with craft beer enthusiasts - I highly recommend checking them out for a dog and a beer next time you are in the area. Their bottle list is quite intriguing and comprehensive. Keith from Abita showed up to hang out and bought me a Lemon Wheat. Folks from the local homebrew and other various and sundry beer geeks also showed up. There were quite a lot of beers that were shared, including Double DBA from Firestone Walker, Dogfish Head 75 Minute IPA, Troeg's Nugget Nectar, and the Bruery's Smoking Wood. Hanging out on a beautiful evening on Dat Dog's patio, mingling with each other and drinking great beers- it was a wonderful time.

We ended our night celebrating Parish Brewing on the patio of the Bulldog Uptown with pitchers of Envie and tastes of the Farmhouse IPA. And thus brought the celebration to a close, to go to sleep, so that one can get up and do it again today.
